DoD: Cluster Munitions Policy Released

“Today the Department of Defense released a newly approved U.S. cluster munitions policy. The United States believes that the new policy will provide better protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure following a conflict, while allowing for the retention of a legitimate and useful weapon.”
What this does is say a big fuck you to those international laws and policies they mentioned offhandedly in the pdf.
“For the purposes of this policy, cluster munitions are defined as munitions composed of a non-resuable canister or delievery body containing multiple, conventional explosive submunitions.
Landmine submunitions are also excluded since they are covered by existing policy and international agreements.”
Let me be clear: cluster bombs ARE landmines.
We are responsible, through direct use of or simple manufacture and sale of, the vast majority of the unexploded ordinance strewn about this world. The cluster bombs and mines, etc, that are blowing up kids and tearing off limbs? Those are mostly ours.
This ‘updated policy’ simply tries to lie, making believe we are doing good.
